After reading an early review of the Road2blogging blog over at bloggin-ads.com, I was a little conscious that Mike highlighted some personal points that I hadn’t made very clear, so I’ll try and make some of them a little more distinct.

I’m 25 and not married – really haven’t found the right person yet that is ‘the one’ so that is gonna have to wait a little .  I completed a degree in Hospitality Management in Blackpool (North West England) and then went to study for my Masters Degree in Management up at Lancaster University – also in the North West of England.  I’m a broad speaking Lancastrian and love the Lancashire hotpots; they’re ‘over broad’, but very funny.

Travel

I’ve travelled far and wide – across America, Canada, the UK of course, Europe and parts of Asia, but never been to Australia or Japan/China – one goal I’ve set myself for 2008/9, to take a little trip over there and back over to the US (maybe for some blog meetups/conventions).  Some of this has been with my parents when I was younger and some most recently when I was a student (yes I had too much money) and after I graduated – doing some volunteer work.  I’m not going to name all of the places here, but you can take a trip over to my facebook page to take a look.

Work

I’ve worked in the hospitality industry since I was 15 (mainly hotels), and I’ve never wanted to work the ‘normal’ 9 to 5 routine that so many people do.  I’ve considered it boring and mundane – this isn’t because I’ve ever done it myself, but from what friends have told me about this way of life.  Hotels and restaurants do excite me (not as much now), but there is something unexplainable about when you’re doing a 15 hour shift and the hotel is full of guests, all wanting something at the same time – anyone who has watched Basil Faulty on Fawlty Towers will know what we all do – running around trying to please all customers – handling a stressful situation can mostly be beneficial to your character – or so I seem to think.

Currently I’m a Bars Manager on a hotel looking after all of the liquor in the hotel – Some evenings we have 600 people on site to cater for and liquor takes £1.3 million per year revenue, so ensuring we keep up sales and responsibility for this is quite tough.

I’ve been part of the British Territorial Army too and experienced some interesting sites and had much fun at leadership and challenges on battlefield training.

Internet Experience

I’ve been roaming the internet since 1998 when I started a college course after leaving high school.  It interested me, but it wasn’t until 2000 (when I went to university) that I actually started using the internet properly – by properly I mean using for research and purchasing products and services online.  Going to and working at Disney World in Florida (as part of some of my year placement from my degree) opened my eyes as to what people across the ‘pond’ actually do and how differently they live from us in the UK.  You can get an impression of a place or person from the internet, but until you actually go there or meet them, you can’t fully understand what their culture is like – I believe I now do.

I’ve taught myself html, css and php, using a few ‘idiot’s guides’ for information along the way and am hoping to build a strong portfolio on the internet – I haven’t gone through any formal training on computers (apart from word, databases etc) and have put up a couple of sites, but managed to ‘break’ them.  I’ve always aimed to learn something new everyday on the internet (since the start of the year) and I haven’t failed not to – I have an e-commerce site at the moment which isn’t doing too bad, but for 2008 this is my dual project with the road2blogging.com blog.

Blogging Experience

Reading blogs for me before 2007 wasn’t really something I was interested in, nor knew about, and if I had started reading some of the many blogs I do now in 2006, then I’m sure I would’ve started this blog and others before now.

I blog over at road2graduation.com, where I pass on my knowledge and guidance to students who are at college and university, and are looking for some help/advice.  I have neglected this blog over the past few weeks, but I’m getting back on track and posting regularly to both blogs.

I produced a guest post in the last week over at bloggin-ads – a review of how2blogger.com, and got some great feedback; I even received guest posting requests from how2blogger and a couple of other bloggers too – which of course is great for my self estime.

Since I’ve started blogging it seems I can write a lot of posts of over 800 words, and you’ll probably find that I’ll be writing similar length posts 5/6 times a week – it’s like a bug.

Future

And if you’ve got to this final part, then you can see what I’m going to do in the future.

With the experience I have, I am considering writing a diary type blog of a manager in hospitality – I’ve already got the titles of 300 posts (there’s allot to talk about and reveal) – something similar to the British series recently screened on BBC1 – Hotel Babylon.  There will be posts about the ‘ins’ and ‘outs’ of hotel work, as well as discussions of upsets, and controversy – all real life and some more ‘detailed’ than others.

Also, I plan to start a customer services blog that evaluates shops, restaurants, outlets, markets, public services and transport etc on their ability to provide quality customer services – I’m aiming to visit a lot of these places in the UK and evaluate my experiences as a customer (in a mystery shopper kind of way) – hopefully providing people with the incite to either visit a particular shop/restaurant/tourist site, or to stay away from them.  If I’m abroad and travelling to a blogging meetup etc, then I’ll probably evaluate some outlets along the way.  To stay uptodate with this you’re probably best to visit my personal site – nicksanders.eu – which will be updated with my projects in the next week or so.

That’s a look at me – how about you.  What experience do you have and do you blog at more than one blog?
